February 2008

Valentine's Day Message
OH MY! It's already February!
Well, 2008 is in full swing! February is here.  I cannot believe that I am about to sit down and make valentines with my daughter for her friends.  I recently had family photos taken and it is such a reminder to cherish every moment.  My girls are 8 and 4 and to see them in photos I am reminded that not only are they not babies anymore, they are getting bigger every day!
I have recently had quite a few friends and family ask me for advice on kicking the common cold that seems to be going around.  This month I will be giving you a little insight into the common cold and how you can help speed up the recovery process and also how to avoid it altogether!
Enjoy!

The Common Cold
Its not very much fun is it?  It can knock you out for weeks. The common cold is quite common!   A cold is usually your body's attempt to cleanse itself of toxins and bacteria that build up over time to a point where natural immunity cant overcome them.  A  normal cold usually runs about a week while the body works to detoxify.  We are constantly exposed to cold causing organisms with out them causing a cold. It is ultimately your immune system that decides whether you "catch" a cold or not.  The medical world is well aware of this, hence the reason for all of the over the counter cold remedies in the drug store!   Work with your body not against it to get over a cold.   By taking over the counter remedies you are prolonging the process.  When you take so called medicine, your body feels better temporarily.  While this is happening your brain says "I'm all better!" and your body stops fighting the bacteria causing the cold, which makes you sick longer.
So.... to help your body heal faster you should:
Get plenty of rest
Drink plenty of fluids
Take vitamin C
Avoid sugar and alcohol
Eat light nutritious meals
Take hot baths to allow toxins to exit through the skin

Natural Remedies:
grapefruit seed extract: natural antibiotic and anti fungal
Black Walnut extract: kills parasites (germs in your body)
Oregano oil
Lots of vitamin C

Ascorbic Acid Flush
An ascorbic acid flush accelerates the detoxification process.  It promotes more rapid healing and protects against further illness.

1. Use ascorbic acid crystals or Ester C powder with bioflavonoids for best results.
2. take 1/2 tsp every 20 minutes until soupy stool results. Note: use 1/4 tsp for children.
3. Reduce the vitamin C dosage slightly so you have a mealy loose stool but not diarrhea (gross I know!) .  Your body will continue to cleanse.  You will be taking approximately 8-10,000 mg daily depending on weight.  Continue for 1-2 days for a thorough flush.
